Have a hell of a jolly Christmas with the whole Sweet family as they exchange heartfelt gifts under the tree in a Yuley yarn we like to call "Drift of the Magi"! Join Buddy as he goes walking in a winter blunderland and tangles with an alpine recue dog in "An Ice-Cold Bud"...and get ready to kiss your ice goodbye when the Trio of Trouble hire themselves out as not-quite-so-professional ice sculptors to scare up some fast cash for the holidays!

Title: "Drift of the Magi"

Story (out of 24 pages): 3 p.

Writer: Jahnesta T. Owen

Penciller: M.S. "Nat" Cohen

Letterer: Shane T. Eaton

Colorist: Nate Meshon

Summary:

It's Christmastime in Jigaboo Junction, and the Sweet family spends the day celebrating with presents and pictures under the tree. The boys plan to give Marcie a gift they all chipped in for, but as they were short on cash, each has had to sell something to fund his portion. Jon has sold his hair, Ben has given up his heirloom Cubs hat (given to him by his special girl), and Timmy...well...he seems to have gotten the spirit of giving a little mixed up.

Notes

The title and some elements of the plot (selling personal belongings) refers to the classic O. Henry story "Gift of the Magi". Tim's leg in a cast is a nod to "A Christmas Carol", in which the poor Cratchit boy "Tiny Tim" walked on a crutch.

Title: "An Ice-Cold Bud"

Story (out of 24 pages): 12 p.

Writer: J.M. Sweet and Jack Staten Monahew

Penciller: M.S. "Nat" Cohen

Letterer: J. Antwon Shea

Colorist: Annette "Jo" Shaw

Summary:

Wearing a new hand-knit--and very tacky--Christmas sweater, Buddy tries to make the best of it and enjoy a day playing in the snow. A cat dares to mock his outfit, however, ruining his fun, so he chases after the interloper. The chase leads him to an ice rink and a rescue St. Bernard with a small barrel of booze around his neck. Thinking a drink would be just the thing, Buddy makes several attempts to wet his whistle, but only ends up getting frozen out--quite literally.

Notes

Second story to use all or part of Buddy's name in a title, following "Buddy's Nightmares".

The story's plot is an homage to a number of classic cartoons, including "Cracked Ice" (Tashlin, 1938), "Terrier Stricken" (Jones, 1952), and "The Froze Nose Knows" (Chiniquy, 1970).

First appearance: The Scotsman's Dog.

Goofs and Nitpicks

Buddy's collar is colored the same as his fur in the second-to-last panel on page 8.

in the second-to-last panel on page 12, Buddy's nose is left uncolored.

Title: "Iee, Ice, Baby"

Story (out of 24 pages): 7 p.

Writer: Jahnesta T. Owen

Penciller: M.S. "Nat" Cohen

Letterer: Shane T. Eaton

Colorist: Theo A. "Jet" Swann

Summary:

Principal Stonehart refuses to pay $5,0000 to have an ice sculpture made for the school's winter solstice dance. He enlists the help of the Trio of Trouble (who chanced to have taken a wrong turn and popped up in his office) to carve him a statue for sixty-five bucks. They agree, despite knowing very little about the craft, and set to work. However, each attempt looks more horrendous than the last, and the ready supply of ice dwindles with each failed effort. Finally, with very little time or ice left, they come up with something...

Notes

The title refers to the 1985 Vanilla Ice single.

The story's plot is similar to one that once appeared in Archie Comics. Any information on title and year is greatly appreciated.
